Data & Methodology

Data Sources

FreeGameRank uses publicly available ranking data from the Apple App Store (via RSS feeds) and Google Play Store. We do not use any private or paid third-party datasets. All data represents what users can see in the public app store charts.

Update Frequency

Rankings are collected regularly using the latest available public store chart data. The latest update date is shown on the site for transparency.

Revenue Signal Model

Revenue and download signals use a power law model calibrated per country and platform. The model takes a game's public ranking position and derives relative signals using country-specific parameters. These are directional indicators intended for trend observation, not official financial figures.

Market Coverage

We cover 19 markets: Japan, United States, South Korea, China, United Kingdom, Germany, Taiwan, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, India, Turkey, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore. Both iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play) are supported, except for China where only iOS data is available.

Limitations

Because FreeGameRank relies on public ranking data, it does not provide official revenue, downloads, retention, or complete long-term commercial history for every title. Revenue-related signals are directional and interpretive. Actual revenue depends on many factors not captured by rankings alone, including in-app purchase pricing, ad revenue, and promotional events. Rankings are snapshots taken once daily and may not capture intra-day fluctuations.
